PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, configured to minimize damages to color photoreceptors by using a single common development bias power source. SOLUTION: A single development transformer is shared. A high voltage is applied to each developing device at all times. In monochrome printing, the rotation and drive of each of the color photoreceptors 101b to 101d are stopped. Furthermore, the cumulative operating time of the black photoreceptor drum 101a in monochrome printing is calculated. If the cumulative operating time exceeds a predetermined fixed time, each stopping color photoreceptor drum is rotated and driven by a predetermined angle; thereby by using a fresh surface of each drum and recovering a deteriorating surface thereof, scratches on the surface of each photoreceptor disposed opposite a corresponding color developing device are prevented.
