PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably carry out image formation over a long period of time, by appropriately coating lubricant supplied to a surface of an image-holding member from a lubricant supplying means on the surface of the image holding member by a leveling member, after removing residual matter remaining on the surface of the image-holding member after a toner image is transferred by a cleaning unit. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, the lubricant is supplied to the surface of the image-holding member by the lubricant supplying means 30 after the residual matter remaining on the surface of the image-holding member 10 after transferring is removed by the cleaning unit 20 and the lubricant is coated on the surface of the image-holding member by the leveling member 40. In this case, the ten points average roughness Rz in a peripheral direction on a surface of the image-holding member is made to be in a range of 0.13 to 0.14μm and the amount of the lubricant applied to the surface of the image holding member in between the lubricant-supplying means and the leveling member is made to be within a range of 0.07 to 0.7 mg/m<SP>2</SP>.
