METHOD FOR PRODUCING A MOULDED ARTICLE AT LEAST PARTIALLY FROM RUBBER CRUMB

According to the invention there is provided a method of producing a moulded article at least partially from rubber crumb, including the steps of : i) providing first and second complementary moulds (10, 12) each having face portions for forming respective generally opposed surfaces of said moulded article; ii) contacting at least one of the face portions with at least one material selected from the group of : a plastics particulate material and rubber crumb; iii) transmitting heat to the moulds thereby to cause the material to melt at least partially to form at least one layer or skin; iv) introducing a core material between the first and second complementary moulds in which, if the material contacting the face portion or portions in step ii) comprises rubber crumb then the core material optionally comprises rubber crumb, and if the material contacting the face portion or portions in step ii) does not comprise rubber crumb then the core material comprises rubber crumb; and v) bringing together the first and second complementary moulds to form the moulded article.
