<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve stereoscopic vision by a plurality of observers while displaying a high-definition stereoscopic image without using special spectacles. <P>SOLUTION: Light emitted from a pair of light sources 13 and 15 passes through a lens 7 or the like, is transmitted through a transmission type liquid crystal display panel 5 and condensed on first and second observation positions M1 and M2. When an image signal output part alternately outputs an image for a right eye and an image for a left eye for each of the first observation position M1 and the second observation position M2, a light source control part allows the pair of light sources 13 and 15 to radiate the light in accordance with image output for each of the first and second observation positions M1 and M2. Thus, the stereoscopic image can be observed at a plurality of observation positions M1 and M2 without using special spectacles, and the same stereoscopic image can be observed by two observers.
