PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short arc type high-pressure discharge lamp having high pressure resistance characteristics while satisfying the needs to increase current handled. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp has a light emitting part 11 and a sealing part 12. The sealing part 12 has a columnar glass member 20 and an almost band-shaped metal foil 5 disposed on an outer surface of the glass member 20, extending longitudinally along the glass member 20. The latitudinal width of the metal foil 5 is partially narrowed on a part corresponding to a peripheral edge of an electrode-side end face of the glass member 20. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
