PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL (electroluminescent) element having a long life and a high light-emitting efficiency and obtaining a blue-colored luminescence having high color purity, and an aromatic compound achieving the same. SOLUTION: This aromatic compound is expressed by general formula (I) [wherein, A<SP>1</SP>to A<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>10</SP>are each H, a substituted or non-substituted 1-50C alkyl, an alkoxy, a halogen atom or the like: (m) is an integer of 0 to 5; X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>are each independently a substituted or non-substituted 6-20C arylene or the like; (a) is 0 or 1; and when (a) is 1, X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>do not become the same].
