PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of eliminating any paper tightening sound or the tapping sound when feeding a print paper to a printing unit while maintaining the performance of preventing double feed or of straightening skew of the print paper at low cost without using any complicated mechanism or operation. SOLUTION: The paper feeder 10 conveys a print paper 11 on the highest position on a paper feed stand 12 successively in the predetermined direction by primary paper feed rolls 13, 14, and slightly conveys the print paper 11 by the primary paper feed rolls 13, 14 after hitting a fore end of the print paper 11 between secondary paper feed rolls 16, 16. Then, any skew is straightened by forming slackness in the print paper 11, and the print paper 11 is conveyed to secondary paper feed rolls 16, 16 while maintaining the slackness of the print paper 11 by continuously driving intermediate paper feed rolls 17, 18 from the start of conveyance of the print paper by the primary paper feed rolls 13, 14.
