Provided is an optical module which can perform high-speed parallel optical transmission with reduced crosstalk components. In an optical module (10), a driver IC (15) is arranged in a recessed section (40) formed on a substrate (11) so that a surface (14a) of a laser diode array (14) and a surface (15a) of a driver IC (15) are at nearly equal levels so that the length of a plurality of wires (22) for transmitting signals, respectively, between a plurality of surface light emitting semiconductor laser elements of the laser diode array (14) and the driver IC (15) is shortest. Crosstalk between the adjacent wires (22) is reduced.
