PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a security device and a security method for preventing a resident from getting into danger, and for securing the safety of the resident, and for quickly handling abnormal circumstances. SOLUTION: This security device is provided with a security mode switching means; an operation means; an absence timer means for, when a security mode is a presence security state as a stand-by state, measuring a first entrance timer time from when a visitor to a monitoring region is detected; a presence timer means for, when the security mode is a presence security state, measuring a prescribed second entrance timer time from when the visitor to the monitoring region is detected by the abnormality detection means; a notification means; and a determination means. When abnormality is detected, and when the presence security state as a stand-by state is set, the notification means does not notify a monitoring center that abnormality is detected even when the abnormality is detected in the monitoring region when accepting an operation to switch to the presence security state before the first entrance timer time elapses from when the abnormality is detected.
