<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for reducing the number of external polarizers without incorporating polarizers in a liquid crystal display panel in a liquid crystal display device with the liquid crystal display panel and a backlight. <P>SOLUTION: A backlight 3 includes a pair of substrates 11 and 12 either of which is used as light extraction side, a wire grid polarizer 13 provided on the inner surface side of the substrate 11 as light extraction side of the substrates, and an organic layer 16 containing an emissive layer 20 provided between the substrates 11 and 12 facing the wire grid polarizer 13. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
