PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic device which downloads a program for controlling a main body and a program for updating control data, which surely recovers from an update failure to improve reliability. SOLUTION: A DVD recorder 1 includes a main block 3, a receiving part 6, an operation part 8, and an update control part 9. When a receiving control part 61 receives a new update program while a main control part 31 is executing a main program of the main block 3, the update control part 9 executes a program loader of a PL memory 92 to install the program to each part 30, 60. When a reset button 83 is long-pressed, a CPU 91 executes an initialization program in a IPL memory 93. According to this, the program at factory shipping, which is recorded in a recording medium 32, is installed to each part, and the main control part 31 thereafter activates the main program.
