PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method capable of providing a desired change-gear feeling by suppressing gear change shocks even if fuel supply for preventing excessive rotation is blocked by a control device of an engine during up-shifting. SOLUTION: In the control method of an automatic transmission, after starting up-shifting, a torque phase for releasing a friction transmission mechanism which is a releasing side at predetermined releasing speed and fastening a friction transmission mechanism which is a fastening side at predetermined fastening speed is executed, and the generation torque of the engine and the transmission torque of the friction transmission mechanism which is the fastening side are controlled so as to execute an inertia phase for changing the rotation speed of the engine from rotation speed before being shifted to rotation speed after being shifted in a predetermined shifting time. In the torque phase, when the fuel injection of the engine is blocked, the friction transmission mechanism of the releasing side is released according to faster releasing speed different from the predetermined releasing speed, and the friction transmission mechanism of the fastening side continues the fastening control.
