PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a braking mechanism of a sliding door capable of preventing the sliding door from being rebounded by not using a large force when the sliding door is opened and closed. SOLUTION: This braking mechanism of the sliding door for braking the sliding door 5 when the sliding door is closed comprises a locking member 3 disposed on the sliding door 5 and a braking member 2 disposed on a sliding door frame member 4. The braking member 2 comprises a fixing part 21 fixed to the sliding door frame member 4 and a braking part 22 attached to the fixing part 21 through an elastic body 23. A slidable contact surface 22a in slidable contact with the locking member 3 is formed on the braking part 22. The slidable contact surface 22a is so tilted that the gap between the slidable contact surface 22a and a rail surface on which the sash rollers 7 of the sliding door 5 run is gradually reduced toward closed position of the sliding door 5.
