PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical material with low refractive index and high dispersion realized simultaneously at high levels, enabling improving the diffraction efficiency of high-adhesion multiple-layered diffraction optical elements. SOLUTION: A resin precursor composition for optical material is provided, containing a cage-type polysilsesquioxane derivative of formula (1) [wherein, at least one of R<SP>11</SP>to R<SP>13</SP>, R<SP>21</SP>to R<SP>23</SP>, R<SP>31</SP>to R<SP>33</SP>, R<SP>41</SP>to R<SP>43</SP>, R<SP>51</SP>to R<SP>53</SP>, R<SP>61</SP>to R<SP>63</SP>, R<SP>71</SP>to R<SP>73</SP>, and R<SP>81</SP>to R<SP>83</SP>is a group of formula (2) (wherein, X is a 1-3C alkyl, and m and n are each independently an integer of 0-5); at least one of the remaining groups is a (meth)acryloxyalkyl; and the further remaining groups are each independently H, OH or a 1-3C alkyl].
