<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystalline coating solution having the maximum absorption wavelength within the wavelength range of 520-600 nm where the spectral luminous efficiency is high, and to provide a polarizing film having large absorption dichroism. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystalline coating solution comprises an azo compound represented by the general formula (I) and a solvent capable of dissolving the azo compound. In the formula, Q<SB>1</SB>represents a phenyl group or a naphthyl group (provided that each of these groups may have a substituent), Q<SB>2</SB>represents a phenylene group or a naphthylene group (provided that each of these groups may have a substituent), m represents an integer of 1 to 5, and M represents a counter ion. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
