<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material used in order to form a lithium secondary battery improved in cycle characteristics and output. <P>SOLUTION: A semiconductor-coated positive electrode active material has the positive electrode active material 2, and a pn-junction semiconductor-coated layer 5 composed of an n-type semiconductor-coated layer 3 coating the positive electrode active material surface, and a p-type semiconductor-coated layer 4 coating the n-type semiconductor coated layer surface 3.
