PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cholesteric liquid crystal driving method and a display device, which can display uniform gradation in a wide range by eliminating gradation crush and gradation jump in a high gradation part and a low gradation part. SOLUTION: The cholesteric liquid crystal driving method comprises: a first step S1 of initializing cholesteric liquid crystal in pixels to display initial gradation; and a second step S2 of applying voltage pulse to change the initial gradation. In the second step, when the difference between the applied energy of voltage pulse applied to the liquid crystal of the initial gradation to display predetermined gradation and the applied energy of voltage pulse applied to display one different gradation is a gradation energy difference, the gradation energy difference in the high gradation close to the initialized gradation is larger than the gradation energy difference in a medium gradation.
