PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling slime in water of a water system, in which a high slime control effect can be achieved while satisfactorily preventing a metal from being corroded. SOLUTION: A chemical comprising a halogen oxide is added to the water of the water system so that the oxidizing power of the water of the water system is kept in a range of≥0.01 mg/L and <0.1 mg/L in terms of the free residual chlorine concentration.
