<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a silicon carbide sintered body by which a silicon carbide member having a predetermined shape can be easily manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: A flexible string-like carbonaceous material 1 is supported and fixed by a plurality of support members 13 arranged along the shape of a sintered body to be manufactured. Both ends of the string-like carbonaceous material 1 are suspended and dipped into a bath of liquid metal silicon 22 melted in a crucible.
