<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a transcoder capable of detecting, at a receiving side, occurrence of an error when receiving medium data in the transcoder. <P>SOLUTION: An error extracting unit 7 detects that an error has occurred in a received medium stream, and determines the position of the occurrence.
