<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element capable of obtaining sufficient display characteristic and responsiveness. <P>SOLUTION: A picture element electrode substrate 20 and a transparent electrode substrate 30 are provided between polarizing plates 10, and a liquid crystal layer 50 is provided between them so as to be clamped by alignment films 40. The liquid crystal layer 50 includes a liquid molecule 50A exhibiting a nematic liquid phase at room temperature and having negative dielectric anisotropy, and a flexible molecule 50B.
