PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welt fabric pressing mechanism of a welt sewing machine which suitably functions regardless of the thickness of a welt fabric. SOLUTION: The welt fabric pressing mechanism 20 includes: a binder 22 having a horizontal plate 22a and a vertical plate 22b; a fabric guide 23 provided so as to be turned by an arm 25a and capable of being elevated and lowered with respect to the upper surface of the horizontal plate 22a; a pulse motor 25b for elevating and lowering the fabric guide 23; an encoder 25c for detecting the position of the elevated/lowered fabric guide 23 by detecting the rotation angle of the pulse motor 25b; and a CPU 61 for controlling the rotation angle of the pulse motor 25b by running a program 62a for controlling the turning angle of the fabric guide.
