The invention provides a method and corresponding receiver for transmitting channel quality data for a channel in a wireless communication system. The method comprises determining channel quality metrics for frequency intervals within the channel, selecting groups of frequency intervals based on the determined metrics, and transmitting one or more channel quality indicators for the groups. The invention also provides a method of transmitting over a channel based on such channel quality indicators fed back from a receiver, and a corresponding transmitter.
