A display panel (24) having a plurality of pixels (30) disposed on a surface of the display panel, wherein the plurality of pixels (30) are configured to receive an electrical signal and power. The display panel further comprises a frame (26), and a plurality of elongated circuit boards (28) connected to the frame (26), wherein the plurality of pixels (30) are disposed on the plurality of elongated circuit boards (28). Further, the pixels (30) comprise light emitting diodes of surface-mount side-view type. Finally, the circuit boards (28) are oriented perpendicular with respect to the display surface.
