The arm rest (10) has a release device that is arranged in a recess and pressable against spring force of an oblong anchor lever (40) for height adjustment. A locking device secures a casing part (15) against movement to a supporting part (14). The locking device has a locking stopper (38) arranged at the supporting part and the oblong anchor lever swivelably supported at the casing part and coupled via spring force. The lever has an anchor lever projection, which is laterally distanced from the lever and forms a counter stopper with the locking stopper. An independent claim is also included for a chair such as office and swivel chairs or swivel armchair, comprising a chair carrier rack.
