Method to check the failure of light functions in an on-board vehicle network

The method involves measuring and indicating a power input over a time using a light control unit (LCU). The measurement is executed in a time slot (20), where beginning of the time slot lies immediately after a settling time, in which a static condition of an LED illuminant is achieved. An end corresponds to a time value that is balanced with the LCU. A defect is indicated and a current limit value is provided below multiple of a normal power input of a filament lamp and approximately to the power input of the LED illuminant.
