The device has a processing device (14) and a workpiece positioning device (18), which are movable relative to a machine base (12). The processing device has a processing tool (30) for processing a workpiece (44), where the tool is movable relative to the base in a rotary driven manner. The positioning device has a workpiece receiving device (46) for receiving the work piece. A multi-axis reference sensor arrangement is provided at the receiving device for detecting a relative position between the receiving device and the processing tool in two dimensions. An independent claim is also included for a method for processing e.g. eroding and grinding, workpieces.
