An apparatus and a method for transmitting and receiving signals in a broadband wireless communication system are provided to improve reception performance by processing simply only signals of a receiver. A receiver removes a guard interval of a symbol received from a transmitter by using a guard interval remover(801). A symbol extractor divides the symbol into a front symbol and a rear symbol(803). The receiver synthesizes the front symbol and the rear symbol through a symbol synthesizer in order to synchronize starting points of the front symbol and the rear symbol(805). The receiver recovers the length of the symbol to the original length of the symbol by using a symbol stretcher(807). The receiver converts a time domain signal to a frequency domain signal by using an FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) unit(809). A channel compensation process is performed to remove distorted components from a channel(811). A post process is performed(813).
