A liquid crystal aligning agent, and a liquid crystal display device using the liquid crystal aligning agent are provided to improve liquid crystal alignment (pretilt angle) and to inhibit the accumulation of the residual DC in case of the impression of thermal stress. A liquid crystal aligning agent comprises a polymer having the repeating unit represented by the formula 1; and at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of the poly(amic acid) obtained by the reaction of tetracarboxylic dianhydride and diamine and its polyimide, wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; A1 is a single bond, a phenylene group or a divalent group represented by the formulas A1-1 ~ A1-5; B1 is a chloestanyl structure, or a C17-C30 monovalent organic group, a C3-C32 alkyl group, a difluorophenyl group, a trifluoromethylphenyl group, a trifluoromethoxyphenyl group or an alkylphenyl or alkylcyclohexyl group having a C4-C8 alkyl group having a chloestanyl structure, but B1 is not an alkyl group of A1 is a divalent group represented by the formula A1-4 and i is 2; and i is 0 or 2.
