A compressor is provided to allow a controller to recognize a voltage across a motor even when a detector transfers only a voltage at one side of the motor to a controller to facilitate design of the compressor and reduce the manufacturing cost. A compressor includes a power supply(11), a motor, a switch(12), a voltage detector(15), and a controller. The power supply supplies DC voltage. The motor drives the compressor. The switch receives the DC voltage from the power supply and provides AC voltage to both terminals of the motor. The voltage detector transfer the voltage of one terminal of the motor to the controller. The controller controls the switching operation of the switch, receives the voltage from the voltage detector and calculates the voltage across both terminals of the motor in consideration of the switching operation of the switch.
