[Class 109] [Also in Group XXIV] A cable, rope, power-transmitting belt, &c. comprises a number of cords, twines, &c. 12 bound by transverse wrappings 9 of tape, twine, &c. the wrapping beginning at the inner members 12 and continuing over the outer members as they are laid in place. The whole length is thus built up to the desired size and cross-section by the addition of longitudinal cords &c. 12 and transverse wrappings. Figs. 3-5 show, in section, various belts obtainable. Fig. 2 shows an apparatus for making a length of belting. Two drums 7 supply parallel lengths of cord or twine 12 which are wrapped by the first tape 9. Two more drums 7 then supply other cords &c. 12 which are wrapped by a second tape, the third cords and tape being similarly supplied and wrapped. Fig. 1 shows an apparatus for making an endless belt. Cord or twine 12 from a drum 7 is drawn through a spinning head 8, round pulleys 11, 10, back through the spinning head, where it is wrapped by tape &c. 9, round the pulleys again and so on as many times as required, the tape 9 wrapping in an additional piece of cord &c. 12 each time. |
