[Class 53] A storage battery comprises a number of similar cells detachably secured together by bolts which pass through parts of the cells and which are interconnected by metal bars or plates. The side walls a, of the individual containers are formed with registering holes such that bolts b may be passed therethrough to hold the cells together. The bolts are interconnected by metal plates c which may be adapted as fixing means or handles for the assembly. Spacing washers e may be placed between adjacent cells and, if desired a further bolt may pass through holes or recesses suitably formed in the lower part of the cells, Fig. 8 (not shown). The cells may be arranged with their narrower edges adjacent each other, Fig. 12 (not shown), by placing a metal bar along each of the sides of the assembly and securing the cells by bolts passing through the bars and cells. The plates x, in each cell are held in position by bituminous sealing substance y which fills the spaces between the edges of the plates and the adjacent parts of the cell. The Provisional Specification also describes arrangements in which metal straps embracing the cells engage shoulders or recesses in the cells. |
