Provided is a memory system by which memory statuses, such as wearout rate, are discriminated and the memory can be efficiently used. The memory system is provided with an NAND type flash memory (1) on which data can be electrically written/erased; a nonvolatile memory (2) which counts the number of deletions performed on the NAND type flash memory (1) and holds the deletion number and the maximum deletion number; and a controller (3), which has a connection interface (31) from which a self-diagnosis command is given from a computer (4), takes out the number of deletions and the maximum deletion number from the nonvolatile memory (2) based on the self-diagnosis command, and outputs the taken out data to the computer (4) through the connection interface (31).
