The method involves tangentially guiding a surface (3) of an endlessly circulating band (1) i.e. lining (2), over a part of a circulating path (U1) with a movable surface (4) under formation of contact regions (6), where both the surfaces are free from contact with a fiber web (F) e.g. paper web. A conditioning agent i.e. lubricant, is applied on one of the surfaces. The application of the conditioning agent takes place by an application device movable in a circumferential direction of the surfaces. Distribution of the conditioning agent is controlled over a width of each surface. An independent claim is also included for a device for treatment of material web i.e. fiber web, in form of paper web, cardboard web and tissue web, comprising an endlessly circulating band.
