An antenna apparatus for a portable terminal is provided to maintain high wireless performance regardless of environment by increasing an antenna gain by installing a dipole antenna in a poor wireless environment. An antenna apparatus for a portable terminal includes a first antenna(400), a second antenna, and a control unit. The first antenna is rotatably mounted at a terminal body and transmits and receives a signal. The second antenna is installed in the terminal body. The control unit rotates the first antenna to be parallel with the second antenna and operates a dipole antenna by connecting the first and second antennas. The first antenna is installed to be rotated to a first position in parallel with a width direction of the terminal body and a second position in parallel with a longitudinal direction of the terminal body. The second antenna is installed at a hinge unit of the terminal body in parallel. A rotation driving unit is installed at the first antenna and rotates the first antenna.
