A digital image processing apparatus capable of automatic setup of a scene photographing mode and a control method thereof are provided to set a photographing condition suitable for geographic information and time information. A digital image processing apparatus(200) comprises a location recognizing unit(220), a database unit(253), and a mode setting unit(240). The location recognizing unit recognizes a current location. The database unit stores geographic information corresponding to the recognized location. The mode setting unit automatically sets a scene photographing mode by using the geographic information. The scene photographing mode is a function for adjusting exposure and white balance according to photographing environments.
