A base station of a broadband wireless communication system and a control method thereof are provided to discriminatively and automatically search neighbor network information according to a microwave environment of an area to obtain network information necessary for system operation. A base station of a broadband wireless communication system comprises a network information searcher(100), a network information decision unit(300), and a base station starter(500). The network information searcher searches network information of a base station capable of broadband wireless communication with a terminal through predetermined cell search. The network information decision unit determines specific network information used in initializing the base station among the searched network information. The base station starter initializes a specific base station corresponding to the specific network information.
