A method and an apparatus for authorizing a host in a portable storage device and providing information for authorizing the host are provided to protect user information stored in the portage storage from a host infected by a malicious code by blocking the access to the storage by a user having no authority. A method and an apparatus for authorizing a host in a portable storage device and providing information for authorizing the host are comprised of the steps: the integrity of the host software requesting the electrical transmission of data is inspected(502); access authority of the host is authenticated(504); and the access authority of the host software is authenticated(510).
