A self-propelled window cleaning apparatus with a fixing unit and an operation method thereof are provided to fix the apparatus to a glass surface temporarily and alternately by the fixing unit, and to allow the apparatus to automatically clean window glass while moving around on the window glass. A self-propelled window cleaning apparatus comprises a first fixing unit fixing a suction pad temporarily and alternately to window glass by vacuum creation and compressed air injection, a moving unit(120) which is connected to a main body(100) on one side and equipped with a second fixing unit fixing a suction pad(122) temporarily and alternately to the window glass, a pneumatic actuator driving the first and second fixing units, a cleaning unit(140) which is connected to the main body and equipped with wash brush or sponge, a moving unit groove(150) to allow the moving unit to move up/down/right/left on the main body, a cleaning unit adjustment groove(151) formed on the main body to attach/detach the cleaning unit to/from window glass, a position sensor recognizing the location of a reference body(200), and a controller controlling the pneumatic actuator, the extension and contraction of the moving unit, and the fixing and separation of the suction plate.
