An LCD is provided to improve an aperture ratio and easily control the number of electrodes for applying horizontal electric fields as well as reducing light leakage. An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) comprises a substrate, first and second signal lines(121,171), first and second pixel electrodes(174), a center pixel electrode, a first image signal line, a switching element, and a common electrode(134). The first signal line is formed on the substrate. The second signal line intersects with the first signal line. The first linear pixel electrode is formed in a pixel area defined by the first signal line and the second signal line. The second linear pixel electrode is formed in the pixel area as making an acute angle between the first and second pixel electrodes. The center pixel electrode is formed between the first and second pixel electrodes. The center pixel electrode has a triangular part and is parallel to the first pixel electrode. The common electrode is formed on the substrate, and forms an electric field between the first and second pixel electrodes and the center pixel electrode. |
