A response time improvement apparatus and a method for a liquid crystal display device are provided to obtain a high response in overdriving by allotting the scatted brightness at the edge of a moving picture in a gray scale to even or odd pixel in concentration partly. A timing controller(31) detects an edge region in which the movement of input image is generated. Overdriven data at the edge ration is divided into even data and odd data, which are added, and the added data is allotted to a pixel at the edge region of an even or odd frame, and black data or overflow data is allotted to the edge region of the other frame. A gate driving unit(32) response to a gate signal control signal supplied from the timing controller, and a gate driving unit outputs a gate signal to each gate line(GL1-GLn) of the liquid crystal panel(34). A data driver(33) outputs a pixel signal corresponding to data processed at the timing controller to each data line(DL1-DLm) of the liquid crystal panel.
