PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber composite material wherein carbon nanofibers are dispersed homogeneously, and to provide a method for producing the composite material. SOLUTION: The method for producing the carbon fiber composite material comprises the steps (a), (b) and (c) The step (a) comprises dissolving an elastomer in a solvent and mixing carbon nanofibers 0.5-500 nm in average diameter into the resultant solution to obtain a dispersion. The step (b) comprises evaporating the dispersion to dryness to obtain a rubbery elastomer mixture 50. The step (c) comprises kneading the rubbery elastomer mixture 50 to disperse the carbon nanofibers in the elastomer by shearing force to obtain the objective carbon fiber composite material.
