PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use a space by space-saving for mounting a plurality of electromagnetic valves. SOLUTION: A valve unit 34 for constituting a variable valve timing mechanism is equipped with a housing 52 which is mounted on a lateral side of a cylinder head 28. On both lateral sides of the housing 52, each of first and second valve holes 60, 62 is formed in parallel with each other at a given interval. Small-diameter sleeves 88a, 88b and spools 90a, 90b which constitute first and second control valves 54, 56 are housed in the first and second valve holes 60, 62, while solenoids 92a, 92b having a larger diameter relatively than those of the sleeves 88a, 88b are arranged outside the housing 52.
