The method involves assigning a biunique identification number (15) assigned to a unit e.g. sunroof module, when an electronic component (11) is installed in the unit, where the biunique identification number of the unit contains a biunique identification number (16) of installed components. The biunique identification number and installation date (23) are assigned to the unit, such that the biunique identification number and the date are stored in an electronic memory of the unit and are read by a software-side diagnostic device.
