<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate defects such as burring or the like in a photo interrupter which is provided with a lens section and a slit opposite thereto and is made integral by a molding. <P>SOLUTION: The photo interrupter A is provided with: a light emitting module 1; a light receiving module 2 spaced apart from the light emitting module 1; and the molding 3 which covers the light emitting and light receiving modules 1 and 2 while exposing part of them. Lens sections 13a and 23a are formed in the light emitting and light receiving modules 1 and 2, and the molding 3 includes: slits 32 and 33 which are opposite to the lens sections 13a and 23a and are open in the direction vertical to the separating direction of the light emitting and light receiving modules 1 and 2; and gaps 34 and 35 which are located between the lens sections 13a and 23a and are open in the direction perpendicular to the separating direction.
