PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synchronization-signal detector capable of stably detecting synchronizing signal, at all times. SOLUTION: The synchronization-signal detector predicts the locations of synchronizing pulses detected at each synchronizing period characteristic of input video signals. The synchronization-signal detector further supplies a plurality of unwanted-signal removing paths, with the input video signals in common, and extracts the synchronizing signals at each path from the video signals, at each path obtained, by removing unwanted signals, in conformity with the characteristics of the paths at each path, respectively. The places of the synchronizing pulses detected of the synchronizing signals at each path are acquired, and the synchronizing signals at each path minimizing the time differences among the places of detections at each path and the predicted places of the detections are selected, and the synchronizing signals at each path are used as the output synchronizing signals.
