PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that although a video recording and reproducing device such as a hard disk recorder is available which has a function of urging a user to erase contents having been recorded when not having enough free capacity to record a reserved program content etc., when the reservation is set, there is a case of a deficiency in free capacity when the user manually records a content even if sufficient free capacity is secured at reservation setting. SOLUTION: The video recording and reproducing device includes a video recording reservation information reception section, a reserved video recording execution section which performs reserved video recording based upon video recording reservation information, a video recording capacity acquisition section which acquires necessary video recording capacity based upon the video recording reservation information, a free capacity acquisition section which acquires the free capacity of a recording device, a judgment section which judges whether the free capacity is deficient for the video recording capacity, and a notification section which gives notice urging the user to delete contents having been recorded and so on when device power OFF is received in the case that the judgment result indicates deficiency.
