PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque detector capable of effectively determining even a failure state caused by a short circuit between signal lines of magnetic sensors, and capable of excluding an erroneous detection value obtained under a short-circuited condition. SOLUTION: The torque detector includes a first shaft 1 and a second shaft 2 coaxially linked to each other, a cylindrical magnet 4 which rotates integrally with the first shaft, a pair of magnetic yokes 5, 5 which rotate integrally with the second shaft 2, and magnetic sensors 7 for detecting a change in magnetic flux of these magnetic yokes 5, 5. The magnetic sensors 7, 7, 7 have different output characteristics, respectively, and are three in number, and the detector determines malfunctioning caused by mutual shortcircuiting between signal lines by performing output comparison of these magnetic sensors 7, 7, 7.
