509,346. Folding seats. VAUGHAN, E. Feb. 25, 1938, No. 5939. [Class 52 (ii)] In a chair &c. in which the back and arms are pivoted to fold down on the seat, a gravity controlled locking catch or catches is or are provided for retaining the back in position and operated by means of a pivotally mounted bar. The back, with arms 5, Fig. 1, is pivoted to the lower frame 7 at 6. Pegs 10 engage in slots in plates 8 on the ends of a rod 9, the centre part of which is cranked, rotatably mounted in the frame. The weight of the cranked part of the rod normally holds the plates 8 in the position shown, and the lower parts of the plates are rounded so that the pegs 10 move the plates to engage the slots. In a modification, the catches 18, Fig. 6, pivoted at 18a and weighted by a connecting bar 20, engage plates 21 on the back. |
