In order to relieve the strain on the on-board power supply system of commercial planes from a substantial consumer, namely the galley with its heating and cooling units, the planes are provided with an autonomous, easy-to-handle power supply system which is built into a catering vehicle (1) of standard dimensions, preferably together with a fuel cell (2) and its fuel tanks (3, 4) and voltage converters (5), said catering vehicle being replaced at the same time as the supply and waste disposal units of the galley are replaced using catering loaders. Such an autonomous, mobile power supply unit can instead or in addition thereto also be mounted in one of the standard baggage or cargo containers to be received in the cargo hold of the plane and can especially power electrical heating and cooling units in other containers.
